Herbalism is the study of plants for medicinal purposes and is the earliest form of medicine. There are many herbs used for specific ailments these days. Many herbs can be used for more than one complaint. Herbal medicines are being more widely used but remember that some ailments should be treated by a Doctor. Please see the following different ways herbs can be used.

An Infusion
is the pouring of water over an herb in order to extract its active quality
A Decoction
is an extract of an herb obtained by boiling
A Compress
is a folded cloth moistened with a herbal infusion and applied to the skin
A Poultice
is a soft composition applied by a cloth

Medicinal Herb Garden
Most medicinal herbs can be used for more than medicinal applications.It is extremely important to use fresh herbs when treating ailments. A good medicinal garden would include comfrey, fennel, garlic, marshmallow, peppermint, vervain, sage, echinachia, marigold and rosemary.
